Most challenging thing about being a superhero:

Keeping up with the changes! Nursing is a profession that demands constant change of skill and information. Working to collaborate with the Graduate Nurses and those with tremendous experience makes for a learning experience for everyone. Nursing is constantly evolving, and keeping up the pace with those changes are the most challenging aspect of being a Superhero!

Most rewarding thing about being a superhero:

Every morning I get to walk into an environment filled with framed photographs depicting unit social gathering, personal accomplishment and career milestones. Every day I’m grateful that I am privileged to work with a combination of seasoned staff and graduate nurses. The most satisfying aspect is that I am able to witness staff return to work everyday with enthusiasm and passion for Nursing. Mutual respect both personally and professionally has enable our EP Unit to reap the rewards of employee longevity and satisfaction which is rewarding to me. As a Nurse Manager is doesn’t get more fulfilling!

Describe your work environment:

Our unit provides services such as pre- and post-procedure care of Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator, Pacemakers, Biventricular Devices and Radiofrequency Ablation. Treating patients who have Sudden Death Syndrome is an emotional and educational challenge that accompanies arrhythmias diagnoses. Constantly changing Electrophysiology technology requires continuing education to maintain our staff’s high level of competence. Our unit will remain a unified and progressive nursing team. We are committed to making our working relationships a priority which will result in and continue to provide successful patient care.

What does “taking the high road” mean to you?

Deborah’s outstanding reputation is important to me. Knowing that Deborah’s 85 year history of humanitarianism is alive and well. Nursing is my passion, it a life’s work and to be able to practice nursing as I know it should be practiced is all important me.

We were recently featured in Advance for Nurses Magazine as one of the best nursing teams in the tri-State area. We achieved this by consistently taking “The High Road” in patient satisfaction, employee satisfaction, positive patient outcomes, and above all, and most importantly, respect for each other and for patients and their families.
